MikeFromMesa
I seem to have a very serious problem with raw images using the latest release (1.2.0.25538) and trying to reset APB using the Command key has not fixed the issue. When I load a raw image my GUI appears very odd. The Run/Split/Mirror icons are missing and the two Show Clipped icons are widely separated instead of being close together. I had not noticed this at first because I don't normally use APB for editing raw images as I normally use it as an external editor for CaptureOne and only process tiffs with it. Hence this skipped my notice and I went directly to adjusting the raw image. I decided to adjust the shadows and highlights using the raw adjustments and, much to my surprise, things did not work properly. I apologize for all of the following screen shots but did not know how else to explain the problem. Here is the Shadows/Highlights tool open with no adjustments made. When I attempted to raise the shadows the entire image brightened, not just the shadows. When I dropped the shadows back the entire image darkened. When I attempted to lower the Highlights nothing happened at all. And when I attempted to raise the Highlights nothing happened at all. As I mentioned I can not fix this issue by trying to reset APB using the Command key (I also tried the Alt and control keys). I am seeing this for all raw images I load, not just the one shown in the screen shots, but I don't know if I am alone in seeing this and, because I don't know if this is just my system or a wider problem, I am only posting it on this forum and not as a bug. The only thing I can think to do is to remove my copy of APB and re-install the current release but I wanted to document this before I did that and find out if I am having this problem alone or if it might be a release-wide issue. I would appreciate hearing from others as to whether or not they are seeing this. For what it is worth I am not seeing this in the Photo Persona, only in the Develop Persona. And, as I mentioned, although resetting APB with the Control Key fixed the GUI icon issue it did not fix this Shadows/Highlights issue.
csp
hi, how is your ap develop persona assistant set up ? try to set it to "no action" and reload the file than adjust exposure and highlight/blackpoint manually. in this case i found the tool behaves more as it should. but it is still in now way comparable to c1. ps.: images of the arizona desert always make me feel i need immediately hop on a plain.... and have one of those incredibly margaritas in the cafe poca cosa in tucson.... I did a complete reset on APB and that solved the icon problem, but the Highlight/Shadows issue still remains. But it appears that you are right. If I set the Assistant to No Action and manually set the exposure and White/Black Point settings, then the Shadows/Highlights setting works properly. That seems very odd to me, but seems to indicate that this might be a release-wide issue. I have never been to Cafe Poca Cosa although my wife and I visit Tucson a couple of times a year. Last time we were right near where it is (I found it on Google Maps after you mentioned it) and it looks quite nice.
csp
i agree. i too think this is a general issue, the whole raw processing pipeline in AP is kind of strange, we have to wait and see if they can improve it. the shadow/highlight tool shifts to much of the histogram to be useful. at the current stage i prefer the curve . billtils
The AP road map includes a revised RAW engine. There was nothing specific about that in the release notes for .25338 but whether by accident or design, I have found this release to be truer that its predecessors. Assuming it was not imaginary and not because of a new engine, then filing a BR is absolutely the right thing to do Mike - get as many bugs out the way now to clear the path for the release version.
