deziner
After importing an Adobe Illustrator file is it possible to make mods and then export back out to AI file format?
Staff MEB Posted May 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2015 Hello deziner, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) No, it's not possible to export to .ai directly. You can export to PDF which we are continuously improving and should cover most use cases. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Graphite Addict
As annoying as it is to have to cater for Illustrator, a straightforward export to .AI would be useful if it is possible. I guess a good PDF export, which I can see from other posts you are trying to improve, would be enough most of the time. I die a little inside everytime I have to use Adobe's cryptic Illustrator UI but it is currently and regrettably part of my workflow. Even though I hate it with the passion, sometimes I have to use it.
Staff Ben Posted May 27, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 27, 2015 The file format for AI is proprietary. There is no public documentation for it that we can use in order to write an exporter. We can only import because AI files can contain a PDF stream which we can pick up. So, unless Adobe publish the file format specification, we are not going to be able to offer AI export.
