Bobaffinity
I'm working on a project that requires numerous guide lines that must be placed very accurately. I've set preferences for "inches" but only the vertical ruler shows "inches". The horizontal ruler shows only points. Is this a bug? Or do I need a workaround? By the way, this is an awesome program with awesome support--both from Serif and other users. Thanks
Staff MEB Posted May 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2015 Hi Bobaffinity, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Can you post a screenshot showing the problem? When you change document units, it also changes simultaneously for vertical and horizontal rulers and they should be displayed the same. Staff Leigh Posted May 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2015 Do you get the same issue with all documents, or just this one particular document?
Bobaffinity
I opened up older docs and had the same thing. I created a new 8 1/2 x 11 doc and again had the same problem. I am working with an imac, with Lion. Each doc I created has the right dimensions, just the horizontal ruler doesn't seem to be cooperating. Thanks
Staff MEB Posted May 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2015 This is probably a bug specific to Lion. I'm not able to reproduce it in Mavericks. I believe this was already fixed in the Beta, but i do not have a machine with Lion installed to confirm this. Bobaffinity
Thanks, I'll watch for the next Beta and see what happens. I'm afraid I'll probably have to do this project in InDesign now. A great week-end to all!
Staff Leigh Posted May 23, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 23, 2015 I have access to a Lion machine, so I will give it try. I'll reply to this thread when I have more information :) MEB
Staff Leigh Posted May 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 26, 2015 I'm back :) I've been unable to replicate the issue on Lion. Is it possible to try resetting the app by holding down the CTRL key whilst launching the app?
Bobaffinity
I held down the control key when opening but that still didn't make the rulers behave. I still have inches on the vertical ruler and pixels on the horizontal ruler. Strange, I don't understand it. Thanks for the suggestions and help from all. Staff Leigh Posted June 11, 2015 Staff Share Posted June 11, 2015 Perhaps you could try the new Beta build to see if you get the same issue :)
Bobaffinity
Thanks Leigh, The vertical ruler still works fine and now the horizontal scale is in inches...but...it displays very odd distances i.e. 4.81358", 7.99601", 13..922", 25.984". Is there anything I can do to made the numbers displayed simply 4", 8", etc.? Thanks for all your help.
Staff Leigh Posted June 11, 2015 Staff Share Posted June 11, 2015 Thanks for replying. Can you create a simple document and send it to me? I would like to see if I get this problem when using one of your documents.
Bobaffinity
Thanks again, Leigh. Attached is a screen shot that might tell you what I'm dealing with. If you want I can send another doc that is only 4" x 11". Hope this helps.
Staff Leigh Posted June 12, 2015 Staff Share Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks Bobaffinity! Is it possible to send me the document you have open in the screenshot? You can send it to support@seriflabs.com )
Bobaffinity
Leigh, instead of sending the large print document, I'm sending a small document that is probably much easier to see the problem. As you can see the numbers on the horizontal axis are quite strange and either I don't understand them or it's a glitch. Anyway, lets try again. Thanks so much for trying to track this down. Staff Leigh Posted July 1, 2015 Staff Share Posted July 1, 2015 I'm still unable to replicate this - have you tried the new RC3 beta?
Bobaffinity
Hi Leigh, I just downloaded RC3 and made a new document, letter size (8 1/2 x 11), and got the same old problem. In addition, the document on the screen was 8 1/2 x 10.7622. Obviously, I've got measurements to inches but I'm still getting these wierd 4 and 5 digit numbers after the decimal point. I did the same in Designer and got the same 5 digits after the page size. You're not having this problem, so it must be unique to my computer. I simply don't know what to change to get good ruler measurements. I think I might try mm later on see what happens. I appreciate your attempts to solve my problem. I don't know where we can go from here. Thanks
Staff Leigh Posted July 1, 2015 Staff Share Posted July 1, 2015 Perhaps you could try creating a new user account to see if you get the same issue when logged into that account.
Bobaffinity
What would be the best way to create a new user account?
Paul Bravery
Hi Bobafffinity, To create a new user account, you will need to click on the Apple menu & choose System Preferences. There you can choose Users & Groups to create a new user. Screen shots below to illustrate how: Paul. Leigh
