To access the Photo Persona again...which is what you were complaining about is 1 click.

This is a new feature that works well...how many clicks did you need before this was added?

Just use it and enjoy it..you will soon forget how "complicated" it is :)

Here are all the steps (numbered) that are needed to start editing an image in Photo Persona:

1. aphoto document.png

2. placed into Publisher.png

3. in Photo Persona.png

4. edit document.png

5. photo persona again.png

It's easy, but it's awkward. I agree with @Petar Petrenko: If you have selected an image and click on the button "Edit Image", you should immediately land in the image editing interface.
Even if you are already in the "Photo Persona", APub first switches back to the "Publisher Persona". That's not very elegant.

What if my embedded Affinity file is a Photo file, but I don't want to edit it as a photo but rather add a vector watermark? Then I would want the Designer persona, not the Photo persona - how is the software to know?

Or a linked Designer file, and I want to use Publisher tools to link some text frames, and add a baseline grid? Then the current action is perfect as I end up in the Publisher persona.

Or a linked Publisher file, say a sub-project or chapter of a larger work? I may want to use any of the three personas to add vector illustration, use raster adjustments, or simply keep editing the text layout.

It's a first version, when you get used to it you will probably not go to the Photo Persona first to edit an image but go directly to Edit Image then choose Photo Persona...I suspect that this will be addressed in a future version, for now its a lot better than anything that we have had before

Click on Designer Persona.

Just do it directly in Publisher. No need to click on any Persona.

You don't need any Persona. Just place them in Publisher. If you want to alter them, then use the appropriate Persona.

Personas are not supposed for adding files, you have "place" for that. You use them for altering appropriate objects placed in Publisher.

Maybe they should remove this button for jpg files etc, it is not needed just go straight to the photo persona, if it is an Affinity file then it says edit document...this is fine

Then don't click that button!

Edit Image is specifically saying that you want to edit the underlying file, the original image in isolation.

If you want to work on the image, with Photo tools: select the image and click the Photo Persona!

If I want to edit an image in Photo I don't need to click Edit Image, I just edit the image! The same is true here.

There are many people all talking about subtly different issues in this one thread.

If the object is a simple object such as a linked JPG / PNG / TIFF then you can simply select it and work on it directly in which ever persona you require.

However if the object is an Affinity file, then this is a complex object. It is a container or box that can hold many other objects, adjustments, masks, even other Affinity files! To edit this you must first open the box.

This is entirely consistent with how Affinity has handled linked / embedded object from the very beginning.

Yes, I know. But I thought that with one-click on Photo Persona should allow me to work with the file/image the same way as I have opened it in Photo directly. But it was not the case because I see the file is flattened rather than with all layers displayed. But, double-click solves the problem (very unusual because all other personas are invoked with single-click only).

I see your point about being able to directly edit the file (as it related to Photo and Designer) with all its containing layers once you click on the photo persona button...I believe it is something myself and other beta testers raised while testing...

However I can also see why it is not functioning this way...As far as I am concerned this 'additional click' is not an issue..in fact once you get familiar with the change in workflow ....you do not notice the events....It also has a lot of advantages over inDesign where you still  have to edit the link... and update the file (in comparison this is less efficient!) As far as I am aware editing the embedded file is also non-destructive...preserving the original state.

You still have the option of clicking on the Photo persona and editing the files (not sure it works exactly the same with 1.6 AD + AP)....

Personally I cannot see why this is such an issue...Yes it may take an extra click but you can do so much more with this workflow:

1. Embed files
2. Link files
3. Use File Manager to reform the structure
4. Perform layout changes directly in Publisher Persona/Designer Persona and Photo Persona
5. Edit the Embedded file by opening an additional tab
6. Switch to Photo Persona and edit the whole file structure
7. Switch to Designer Persona and edit the whole file structure
8. Copy and paste files between all three apps
9. Edit 1000's of elements in Publisher from AP and AD directly in Publisher (I have tried it with a 95 page document containing over 10,000 elements!)
10. Open Designer artboards as spreads or pages and edit their content in the Personas
11. Switch artboards as pages in a similar way you can with PDF pages
12. Save and edit Publisher .af in Designer and Photo (works tried it..useful for find and replace!)
13. Control the view page in AD and AP when imported from Publisher
14. Show and hide visible elements contained in AP and AD files (hence the original point of stacking images in layers)

I am sure there is more..but this is enough for me not to concern myself too much with an extra click..

Just explore these features...they are fantastic ...It is a massive step forward in workflow! and I am sure all the Personas/Apps with be refined in time....:)

There is nothing wrong with raising the thread.....I know the issue was raised when testing (select image/click persona/edit file immediately)...but I still think it's a matter of getting used to a new workflow......Which is basically... very flexible even to the point of how you  import the files (which is why I raised he option of opening rather than placing...to direct edit in the first instance)......

Being able to import into AD and AP and switch pages...is what I was most impressed with.....and the fact you open AD files in AD persona as a continuous spread or atrboards or pages...eek!:)
