Hey BobSing,

This is likely due to mipmapping. If you view the image at 100% and merge, you shouldn't notice this as you're seeing the image and screen pixels match 1:1.

If you are viewing the image at a lower zoom to fit the entire image on the screen, it will be resampled for display and as such, small details (namely noise and sharpening) will lose some definition due to the resampling process. 

As far as I know, nothing should have changed in this regard between version 1.6 and 1.7.
