Does anyone know why we have this button in the Paragraph Styles -> Bullets and Numbering?

So far I've been unable to make it work and wonder what its purpose in life is.

On my machine (Windows 7) the button is "More…" rather than simply "…"

It is greyed out / unavailable until I select Bullet from the "Type" drop-down.

Then it turns white, and when clicked will lets me select other, less common glyphs from a font.

Ditto!

One slight problem I have is the Edit Text Style dialog being so tall that it opens with the title bar almost completely off the top of my laptop screen, and I have to drag it down a little.

It works for me, you can place a text instead of a bullet.

Just reset Publisher and now it works. Phew.

This is the interesting side door to all kinds of bullets:

  1. One can use one of many symbol fonts to choose all kinds of shapes.
  2. One could create an own symbol font with custom bullets. (I do not know very much about font creation. But there are some specialists in the forum who could provide more information).

Yep, now we just need color font support and we can get multi-colored bullets working...

+1 for this — especially on iPad, where iOS gives me a tantalizing glimpse of what’s theoretically possible but the Affinity apps don’t let me use it yet!

QuarkXPress supports them, a few examples on this page: https://www.planetquark.com/2018/02/24/color-fonts

Curiously, this page lists Affinity Designer as supporting SVG color fonts, but I don't believe that is accurate?  https://www.colorfonts.wtf/
