LionelD
I’m still new to Designer, so this question might be a result of my lack of knowledge. I am looking for a way to lock the aspect ratio of a Symbol - i.e., I want all instances of a given symbol to maintain their aspect ratio, regardless of how their respective containers are scaled, subject to the Constraints that have been applied. Directly changing the aspect ratio of one instance of a Symbol (e.g., using Transform Tool) should change all other instances proportionately. I understand that changing the aspect ratio of a Symbol is going to have consequences for any content, and that’s ok. Is there a way to do this, please? I’ve searched everywhere (that’s right, the WHOLE internet) and my experiments are not producing the desired result. Regards

If the Symbols are synchronised, according to Affinity Help, any edit or adjustment made to one symbol will be reflected in all other linked symbols. As to locking the aspect ratio .... There does not appear to be a direct control but could you perhaps nest the 'to be symbol, object' in a rectangle with 0 pix outline and no fill. Then lock it’s aspect ratio in relation to this rectangle using constraints in Transform studio. Then make the whole thing a symbol? Adjusting the object box should now lock the symbol 'object' aspect ratio although you may get clipping if you adjust boundaries too small. LionelD
@DM1 Thanks for the suggestion. I will experiment with this concept. I’m making repeating patterns. If the Symbol starts life as an equilateral triangle (they are guaranteed to tile correctly) and get bent out of shape accidentally, the resulting pattern no longer tiles seamlessly, so it’s rather important.
