Glicky
Is there a tool in AD that fills closed areas to create a new shape, something like the "smart fill" tool in CorelDRAW? (if not, will it be added in the future? and what's the work-around for it?) Sorry... i'm new to Affinity. R C-R
16 hours ago, Glicky said: what's the work-around for it? Like @Pšenda said, you can add a new rectangle to the document. Move it behind the other layers in the Layers panel like in this add rectangle.afdesign example so only the unfilled area is visible. Alternately, you can use the Pen Tool & snapping to create a new shape snapped to the empty area but it is usually quicker & easier to just make the shape larger than that area & move it behind the others. Glicky
Thanks for the idea, but when it comes to filling a lot of "holes" with colors, it will get difficult to end it up correctly. (see attached file) I think that a "smart filler" is an important tool for A Designer. Great application should have "automated tools". Aammppaa
This is related to the Path Finder type of tool, which is requested every other day! Glicky
No, the "Path Finder tool" request is something completely different. here we ask for something like the "smart fill" tool in Corel DRAW. (I'm not sure if there is such a tool in AI, perhaps the "Live Paint Bucket Tool" is the most similar tool to that, but it's really a simple and very useful tool)

A Pathfinder Tool would construct new shapes from existing ones, whereas a Smart Fill Tool would create new shapes from the space enclosed by existing shapes. Bri-Toon
Glicky, it's been forever since I used CorelDraw, and I am interested in a fill tool that works on shape intersections as well. So I ask, how would the flood fill affect intersections with strokes? Like in your third example, if you moved that middle object away after it was filled in, would the stroke then be part of that new fill? photoadele 1 Quote The website is still a work in progress. Glicky
The Smart Fill in CorelDRAW creates a new separate object, it's not linked to any other object or stroke. Aammppaa, photoadele, Bri-Toon and 1 other
gdenby
Considering that people, some of whom have been hopping up and down about it, have been asking for a mesh warp tool for a few years, I suspect the dev team might be more likely to devote time to that. Or maybe a blend tool. Both the infill on the ring design, and the form from the intersecting lines can be done already w. a bit of effort. In the case of the simple quadrangle, almost w/o effort. Its not my decision, but I'd have to put something like that well down on the list of really good to have. Attached, a sloppy figure, but the sections were colored in just about 1 min, 15 sec. Most of that time was just opening the swatch group, and assigning a color for each shape. Raymondo
Looks like the “shape builder tool” in illustrator is similar to “smart tool” you are referring to which has been requested many times. Maybe something similar will be added in a future update. Affinity are, or should be well aware of this feature request so hopefully it won’t be to long coming. Oh they are definitely aware of it, though I think it has more to do with the approach to bring in a new feature. They have mentioned how the Flood Tool in DrawPlus did not work the way they wanted it to because of the gap space it created. So I guess it has to do with implementing a tool right before they release it. Quote The website is still a work in progress. The "Comics" and "Shop" sections are not yet ready.
