Petrweigl
Hi! First post as a new user. I have a vector pattern that I have exported from Moi 3D. It’s a flat drawing of for ease of description is a bunch of concentric circles in side each other. when I import/open in Affinity designer on the iMac it shows up fine. I can select the lines and see the points. Then as an example I fill a couple of these circles with colour. I then try to use the Boolean tool when the 2 circles are highlighted to cut them out from one another. The result is both parts disappear as do the layers they were on. The function has not worked. If I redraw both circles and again perform the Boolean function it works as expected. My imported file are not circles, so they are timely to redraw. I want to be able to do this process often and draw them still originally in the 3D program so I need to find the issue. It would seem that there is some process or naming or something I need to do with the vector lines being imported to make them function as if they were drawn in Affinity Designer so I can perform the Boolean function. I can’t see a difference between the lines but guessing someone here will point out what I’m doing wrong. At least I’m really hoping so it’s driving me crazy cheers Petr
Wosven
Hi, Can you show an example and provide a file with few elements you want to work with? Without this, it's difficult to help... perhaps you can try to close the pathes before the bolean operations, but I'm not sure it's the problem. Petrweigl
Hi Wosen! Thanks for your quick reply! I am under a NDA with the actual pattern, but here is one I just created to illustrate the same point. Exported from the same program and in PDF format again. Also I have attached the PDF separately incase there is anything to do with it in either the export or import. Wosven
When this happens, try this option: Layer > Fill mode > Alternate
Petrweigl
Thank you, will try that! Do you know why it’s doing that though, is there a way to make it work normally or is this just how Designer handles PDF vectors brought into it? Wosven
It depends of path going from left to right or right to left and meaning if the path should be filled or not, or something similar. (It can happen when converting text to curves, or merging curves).

If you reverse either of the curves (but not both) the ‘Subtract’ command punches a hole without any need for you to change the fill mode. Petrweigl
Thanks guys! By alternating between the two options I can achieve my Boolean filter. what a relief!!!! cheers!
