Nested Symbols

Recommended Posts

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that you can nest symbols, and, as long as you do that in a well-disciplined way, they behave exactly as expected.

Which, of course, got me thinking about what would happen if you placed a Symbol inside itself.....

Well, AD iPad 1.7 blows up.  Understandable, but it would be much nicer if you simply could not do such an idiotic thing.

I’ve attached a sample file for the curious.  I made a copy of the large green circle at bottom left (uppermost in the Layers Studio), reduced the size of the copy, and then tried to drag the copy inside the original (yeah, I know, but I hope any comments will nevertheless be polite if candid).

Regards

Uh oh - I think I posted this in the wrong place, sorry.

@Paul Mudditt Thanks for the feedback, but your reply confuses me.  Are you saying that the new beta version will allow you to move a copy of a Symbol into the original source Symbol?  What does it do about the implication that the copy should also contain a copy of itself, and so on ad infinitum?

Regards

Ah ok yes it crashes when I followed exact steps. Creates some infinite recursion I suppose, and perhaps difficult to block.
