[designer 1.7.0] how node points selection work?

Hi, I've been working with Illustrator for over 20 years now, I've been at Affinity for 2 years with the designer that I like to use now, but sometimes I have real problems with the function, like selecting and positioning node points in an object that was cut out of another (typical for logos or icons) for a better understanding here's a movie.

The question, how can I select the Q and position it even better later?

Hi, ich arbeite nun seit über ca. 20 Jahren mit Illustrator, bin seit 2 Jahren bei Affinity mit dem Designer dabei, den ich inzwischen sehr gerne nutze, habe aber hin und wieder echte Probleme mit der Funktion, wie zB die Auswahl und Positionierung von Knotenpunkten in einem Objekt, dass aus einem anderen herausgeschnitten wurde (typisch bei Logos oder Icons) für ein besser Verständnis hier ein Film.

Die Frage, wie kann ich das Q auswählen und später noch besser positionieren?

Select all of its nodes (like you have done) & then click on one of those nodes & drag to move it around. It is hard to tell from the video, but I think you are dragging from a point slightly to the side of one of the nodes so you end up dragging the line segment between the two nearest nodes instead.

For things like this, it often helps to zoom in so you can see the nodes more clearly.

A few other things. The 1.7 version allows irregular "lasso" selection while holding down the option/alt key. For small adjustments, I usually use the arrow keys to nudge the point(s). If you want precise positioning, ince the points are selected, use the transform panel, and type in the exact value. Typically, I position the transform control point at the center.

Is there any option for small steps with the arrow keys? like in Adobe, arrow key + shift = 10Px or arrow key + alt for 0,1px steps.

Yes, in Preferences > Tools, there are settings for "Nudge Distance" & "Modifier Nudge Distance." You can choose among pixels or any other supported unit types for entering the 'nudge' values.

Thanks for the tip about the "lasso" tool. I saw that in the overview of the new version on Affinity website and been looking for how to achieve it everywhere (I don't think it's in the help files but I may be wrong)
