I have seen these weird issues when pasting text into a text frame, for instance from a PDF. I believe it misinterprets some kind of end character, as the text basically become a string of vertical characters. It does not happen all the time, so I can't create a screen capture now, but it happens often enough to call it a bug. I have seen this in the latest Beta, and is still there in RC1. I use an iMac 2011 with el capitan.

It would help if you would attach a sample .afpub file that demonstrates the issue, and if possible the .pdf file that you copied from.

I made a screen capture to show whats going on: at first I copied a piece of text from a PDF into an empty text frame. The first time everything was OK, then I tapped return to create a new paragraph, and pasted another piece: it goes completely wrong, as you can see.

I made another attempt, and I am not sure what is going wrong. I pasted the same text twice, with a line between them: no problem. I pasted another part after a return: no problem. I pasted the part I pasted before: boom, same problem. Perhaps it has something to do with the way characters are interpreted when pasting from PDF. I reported before that it seems to have trouble with german accented characters. This could be related.
