GaryM
I have recently downloaded Affnity 1.7. I have discovered that if I sharpen a photo using the Live Filter "Unsharp mask" and then select "Merge Visible", the sharpening does not get incorporated into the merged image. Other adjustments seem to carry over (although I have not tried them all yet).
Staff Chris B Posted July 10, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 10, 2019 Hi Gary, It seems to be working fine for me. Can you still reproduce this? Which version of 1.7 are you using? TMX Photo
I have the same problem. It makes the adjustment on the photo but after you close the dialog box (click apply), it reverts back to normal and doesn't save the changes. I'm using the latest one in windows. 1.7.1.404 I tried this same procedure on my mac and it worked perfectly.
Staff MEB Posted July 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 11, 2019 Hi GaryM, Welcome to Affinity Forums Make sure you are seeing/comparing the document at 100% zoom when you merge it. For other (arbitrary) zoom levels, the live filter may not be accurate enough in particular for filters like sharpening, noise etc where the output varies a little according to the zoom level due to the dynamic nature of the live filters. If after the merge operation you really don't see any difference at 100% zoom, can you please attach the file for us to take a look please? Thanks. TMX Photo
The adjustments I'm making aren't minor so you can easily tell without zooming if it's making the changes or not. This problem I found is only in windows. I reproduced the same adjustment on my mac and didn't encounter that problem with same versions. 1.7.
Staff MEB Posted July 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 11, 2019 Hi TMX PHoto, Welcome to Affinity Forums I was replying to Gary specifically in my post above. Do you mind attaching the file for us to take a look please? I do not have access to a Windows machine at the moment but I'm sure @Chris B or someone else from the QA team will take a look when possible. TMX Photo
I don't know what happened but it's working fine now. I tried it on 2 different images and it's ok now. If it happens again, I will contact you.
AP Nick
I've noticed that whilst using AP rel 1.9.2.1035 on Windows 10, that Unsharp mask detail improvements of e.g. Radius = 1 pixel, Factor = 1, Threshold = 0%, do not seem to get incorporated into a Merge Visible layer. This is particularly noticeable at Navigator Zoom levels of 50% or less. If one zooms in to say 100%, the effect is far less pronounced. If an image is exported to JPEG and subsequently viewed at less than 50%, which one would normally expect to do to see the whole image, is the Unsharp mask sharpening actually delivered to the image or not? Or is it 'just' a viewing feature fault/bug? Thanks, Nick

You cannot properly evaluate it when zoomed out to less than 100% zoom, due to the rendering technology that Affinity uses, and will get inaccurate results if you try to do so.
