Location information

Recommended Posts

Because of the post Andy recently made concerning the new Location panel that will be available when APB is actually released I decided to take another look at the current state of exif information when APB is used.

I have some images which have gps location information in them. Here is a screen shot of a jpg that I loaded into APB.

You can see that this has location/height information. I simply loaded this image and saved it. I made no adjustments (other than those that APB might have made when the image was loaded) and then closed the image and reloaded the saved version. Here it is.

As you can see almost all of the exif information is gone, including the location and height information. I assume this will be addressed before release.

The same problem exists if the image is exported instead of saved.

This is on the todo list of the developers. Currently no exif data are written in the final output, not even the copyright notice.

Andy posted the following in the release notes about the current version

- EXIF support for reading / writing PSD.

so I assumed that the exif data issue had been fixed. But when I tested creating jpgs, tiffs and psds from a raw image I found no exif info in the outputs and posted that. The response was that exif in raw data is different and will be addressed and that response made me think that the exif data in non-raw input images was being handled properly when those images were written, but that has not been my experience.

What I see is that exif data in both jpg and tiff input images is being lost on save or export. I can certainly wait if they are going to address all of the exif issues, but I was under the impression that they thought that the non-raw exif issues had already been addressed.
