Text no longer editable after update | pixel layer

Recommended Posts

I'm a new Affinty Photo user, after years of photoshop cc

After the recent update i can't edit my text layer any more.  My files are being opened as a regular pixel layer.
I was able to do it in the previous version.

The following things i checked/did:

Affinity Photo Preferences, General section and check Import PSD text as text rather than bitmap.
(it is still checked like before)

I restarted the pc.

I don't know if it is a bug, but i really need to edit my text layers :)

Thx!

The file was last opened on 28 may 2019,  that's before the update (right?)

The file was made in Affinty. I'm only using Affinity for a few weeks, so i don't have that many files made in Affinity.

New files have the same problem.  Text layers will open as bitmap / pixel layer, despite the "import as text .." is checked.

Okay... sorry once again it's me.

Just discovered something.

Text is NOT editable when i use    "export as psd"
Text is editable when i use             "save as (affinty files)"

So now i can edit my new (text) files, but not my old ones made in PS ore in the previous version.

You can edit the text in any Affinity file, old or new, but you cannot edit text in a PSD file unless you’ve chosen the option (under Preferences) to import PSD text as editable text. By default, PSD text is imported as an image to ensure that its appearance is preserved.

You cannot export to editable PSD text from the Affinity apps. If you need to create output with editable text, choose a different export format such as PDF.

I think i did the same things in the previous version and was able to edit the text (after i found out about the checkbox "import psd text as ..."

Thanks for the help, appreciate that

It's an Affinity PSD file handling restriction , since Adobe PS etc. of course can keep text as editable text for their own file format. Thus it's more a matter of PSD format parsing (reading) and code generation (writing) in this case.

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

And further complicated by the fact that the PSD file format is complex, changes frequently, and is not completely documented by Adobe.

Problem is that even text layer in PSD created by Affinity will be loaded as pixel.
This happens even if import PSD text as editable text option in Preferences
 is enabled.

That’s to be expected. The Affinity apps can import PSD text as editable text, but when you export to PSD you won’t have any text in the exported file.
