Once you have been a member for a short time and made a few posts this setting changes automatically to put you into a forum group with permission to modify your profile and edit your posts. I changed this setting 5 months ago as we were getting spammers joining and setting SEO links in their profiles and editing initially innocuous posts to add spam links for SEO reasons. Post another reply here (bringing your post count up to five) and then try again.
