I have installed the beta version of Affinity Publisher into the Windows pc's of several friends (living in France), those installations are all in French language. However, those friends have now all informed me that they have received the pre-order email in English...something which a few of them cannot even read.

Regards.

Hello @AKAMERA,

first off, welcome to the forum.

I know not enough about how you installed the Affinity Publisher (or APub) beta versions on your friends PCs but I have an idea of what is going on. The language of the program is a local preference of APub. Email news and announcements are sent from a Serif account that has it's own language settings. There is no connection between the two.

So, if you created by any chance for each of your friends an own Affinity account it would be in the online account's settings where you (or your friends) could change the language in which email messages are sent.

I know, this is only a small guess and a kind try to help you with this. I hope I'm not pointing you in a wrong direction :)

Cheers,
d.

Thank you Dominik, I cannot recall having set up accounts for those installations...unless it was obliged. I am simply advising so that Serif is aware that emails are being sent out in languages not corresponding to the language version of APub being used by clients.

On another note, I am currently downloading the latest APub beta version on two laptops...the downloads have been running for at least two hours and have not yet reached 50% on either laptop!  All variables are identical to what they were for previous beta update downloads, why are these downloads taking so long??

Unless you setup accounts for them, or they set them up themselves, how would Serif have their email addresses to send them any emails?

In any case, Serif should not know what language you (or they) have specified in their Publisher preferences, as they should not be tracking that kind of information. It would have to have come from signing up for the Serif email.

Was that inital comment requiring of a concrete response? I should hope not.

"...as they should not be tracking that kind of information" (etc.) is purely wishful speculation. Perhaps something you wish to take up with Serif?

Thank for your 'polite' participation, however. ;)

Regards.

This is simply something that is not possible. There is no connection between the local language setting in APub and the company. @walt.farrell has kindly pointed this out, already (on a side note: we do not one-to-one conversations here at the forum. It's more like 'mingle and discuss' :) )

It happened to me in the past occasionally that download times were extremely slow (up to 1 1/2 hours for a file that usually takes 3 minutes). I assume this is related somehow to the connection between the computer and Amazon's cloud where the files are stored. I have no idea what the cause can be.

As a side note, would it be possible for Serif to publish the emails in the various languages please?

I am no linguist, but I have a little French and an extremely little of a few other languages and it would be interesting to try to read emails on a technical subject in another language.

As Adam told us the other day, do this:

  1. Go to affinity.serif.com.
  2. Log into your account.
  3. Choose the menu item „Account Details“ by clicking onto the account icon in the top bar.
  4. Click onto the link „Manage Settings for Marketing Emails" (or the corresponding link in your language)
  5. Choose your preferred email language.

How one is to "mingle and discuss" without the 'one to one' element is beyond my scope of understanding, but clarification is not required. "KIndly" is relative, as I am certain you are aware! "Welcome" indeed! ;)
