C J Stevens Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 The shiny new version 1.7 crashes when editing gradients just as v1.6 always did. Gradients may be in various shapes or in pen lines and creating them is no problem. Going back to edit them can result in random crashes, sometimes multiple crashes. On a few occasions, the software works as it should. Crash reports are sent to Apple and, presumably, to Serif given I have that option selected. This bug seems to be really persistent. Quote
Staff Sean P Posted June 6, 2019 Staff Posted June 6, 2019 Hi C J Stevens, Could you do a screen recording showing what steps you are doing to reproduce this crash please? Also are you able to attach a couple of the copies of the crash reports please? Thanks, Quote
C J Stevens Posted June 6, 2019 Author Posted June 6, 2019 Two crash reports attached, one each for versions 1.7 and 1.6 (for comparison). Activity: Select an object which has a gradient fill. Click on toolbar to open panel (see attached image). Click on one of the colours in the gradient and change it in some way (to a different colour, lighten or darken the colour, change opacity, add or subtract noise, whatever really). Sometimes, this causes no problems. On other occasions, as one clicks on something to adjust it, the programme crashes, a crash report is generated and then one starts over (depending on how recent the last save was). As it does not crash every time I edit a gradient, a screen recording may prove elusive. I hope this helps meanwhile. Any assistance appreciated. It would be nice if I were doing something wrong - then I could stop doing it (-: Affinity Designer_2019-05-31-131209.crash Affinity Designer_2019-06-05-223915.crash Quote
Staff Sean P Posted June 6, 2019 Staff Posted June 6, 2019 Thanks for that - how often would you say it crashes when editing the gradient? If you could record for a while and just try and force it that could still prove useful. I've been trying a lot myself and cannot cause it to crash. Do you work with multiple documents open with different document palettes at all? Looking at one of the crash reports seems to hint that it is likely crashing when you're going through the swatches. Thanks Quote
C J Stevens Posted June 6, 2019 Author Posted June 6, 2019 Frequency is quite random. Some days it does not crash at all. On some occasions two or three times in succession. I spent a while recording just now but of course, no crashes. I will try again when time permits and post here if I capture it. As a general rule, I only have one document open at a time. On the rare occasion when I have more than one, they would use the same document palette. It happens most often with more complex documents (hundreds/thousands of shapes, lots of gradients, etc) but most recently with a quite simple project (about 200 layers at the point of crash of which maybe fifty feature gradients). Thanks Sean P 1 Quote
Staff Sean P Posted June 6, 2019 Staff Posted June 6, 2019 Thanks for that - if you do get to capture it that would be great! And if you wouldn't mind attaching any related documents that could also help us a lot! Quote
