Reporting Localisation Issues in Mac Publisher beta #384 (#376 #371)

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

The Affinity Publisher Mac public beta #384 has all UI locales available.

In the app menu, Preferences > General you can choose any of the 10 languages, restart the application and experience Affinity Publisher in that locale.

We are hoping that the localisation is now correct, but if you see any words or phrases that are out of the ordinary, or are clipped/cropped short in the Mac build PLEASE report them in this thread, stating the language and version you are running and what OS you are seeing the problem on.

Use this thread (Do not make new threads) unless you are seeing a bug that does not happen in English, so Bugs in new threads, localisation issues in this thread.

The help file is still out for translation (sorry) but this thread can be used to report anything you see in the software.

@ Patrick, since previous posts are gone in this thread its a bit unclear: Do you want us to report again formerly reported issues?

German :: menu Edit > Export > Area:

– It still says "Layoutseiten" to distinguish them from "Seiten", while all pages in a document are layout pages *, right ?
––> "Druckbögen" versus "Einzelseiten" (or "Seiten")

443693259_exportoptionsbereichAlleSeiten.jpg.d95cef07e2b6353e6d5ef7689a423deb.jpg

– Also: The word "Alle" in this pull-down menu is unnecessary and therefore rather confusing here; it becomes defined by the text box below.
––> simply delete "Alle" (or say "als" instead ('export as spread'))

     980335807_exportoptionsbereichAlleLayoutseiten.jpg.cd66a4ec3fca053db1397fbe72a8991d.jpg

(* yes, one might use specific pages of a document not for layout but rather to structure the document for easier overview, e.g. in Pages Panel, – but those would not get filtered by this export option).

German :: Stroke Panel + Character Panel
– No translation but little layout issues because of word length, font size or position. Appears with both UI font sizes.

German :: Layer menu + panel > Adjustments > "Split toning"
– "Split toning" is not translated yet, a common would be "Teiltonung".
– btw: the English "Softproof" is common in German, too; a translation is not common.

Actually, if you want to post links in here to the things you reported before that are still true, that would be helpful.

You probably reported most of them in these threads

In French toujours:

isn't there a confusion with planche and page?  a planche is made of two pages.

the title window Configuration de la planche is not correct as the setting is also for the page.

Also, In Maquette window, Planche type A is a spread and Planche type B is a page. There are called Planche

Gabarit is the appropriate term: The Maquettes window should be called Gabarits and the documents inside Gabarit type A, Gabarit type B

Hi

Some problems in spanish localization
(Otherwise, a good translation into spanish!!)

(1)  Texts too long..." Alcance: Documento"->Doc. || "Buscar en: Todos marcos de texto" ->Todos marcos txt ||  The second half of the conmuting button is not to be seen, but "Text Flow" in english version can be "Flujo de txt"  ||  texts in next two checkboxes is too long and too compact and small... difficult to read: probably simply changing "tabla de contenido" to "TabCont" or "TabDeCont" (ie. "Detener en siguiente TabCont")

(2)  Propiedades button.... either button a bit longer or abbreviate Propiedades... with "Propiedades" (without "..."), or with  "Props..."

(3)  Too long and difficult to understand "Retraso de la descripción de herramientas", can be abbreviated with "Retraso de ayuda herramientas"

(4)  Instead of "Ampliar" in this menu, better could be "Expandir"

(5)  Instead of "Cambiar interfaz de usuario" (difficult to understand what the command does, better could be "Ver/Ocultar interfase" or "Conmutar interfase"

(6)  In this pop-up menu change "Valor Predet." with "Predeterminado", and also could be a polite image that all language options are capitalized, and not only both Englishes (GB and American) and German.... "Español, Italiano, Português, Français, Русский"

(I apologize for the big screenshots.... has to do with retina screen capture, surely)

Emilio

My favorite topic, keyboard shortcuts - now Mac OSX edition. ;)

mactastatur_german_uk.thumb.png.ee1c5e270df67ce5065c5de90cd73a32.png

Comma and semicolon are on the same button... so "Show Guides" does not work and open "Preferences". "Show Grid" (cmd + ') does nothing.

Angle brackets are one the same button.

angle.thumb.png.d1eea9a107e563cbde47650209eb2244.png

So cmd + > and cmd + < are basically the same. ;)

Right and left square bracket:

bracket2.png.b340534f2ed0819fb8a02f8cc48b7d2f.png

ALT + 5 = [

ALT + 6 = ]

There is no way to get square brackets to work as a keyboard shortcut.

3 Suggestions concerning German translation:

1. In the TYPOGRAPHY palette the English term "All Caps" is translated with German "Großbuchstaben“. But the correct typographical term in German is: VERSALIEN.

2. In the CHARACTER palette the English term "Oblique" is translated with German "Schräg“. But the correct typographical term in German is: KURSIV.

3. But: Since the fonts of the major font manufacturers (Adobe, Linotype, etc.), which are most frequently used in the graphics industry and by designers worldwide, since they all use the English nomenclature for the various font style descriptions, it would probably make sense to retain this internationally used nomenclature in the German and other language versions of Affinity Publisher as well.

Herr @manwerk

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums :) . I have moved your post into this thread for translation concerns (I hope that is OK). Please post here anything else you would like to pass on regarding localisation suggestions.

Same configuration.

  • All relevant menu items. Please use German typographic quotes everywhere. (Dialogfeld "Typografie" öffnen… is looking particularly odd, for obvious reasons. ;))
  • All relevant menu items, every locale. Apple suggests typing a blank before an ellipsis in menu items.

Kontur Studio. The tiny font issue is back. EDIT. Was already reported above.

In both Stroke panels also "Gehrung" is affected (in narrow panel window width): "Gehrung" still overlaps with button/icon in RC1.

German, RC1:  Color panel > pulldown menu > "Schattierung" ("Tint")

"Schattierung" is a mixture with Black, whereas here the mix with White becomes set. This would be "Buntheit", "Intensität" or "Farbigkeit".
"Schattierung" is closer to "Sättigung" (saturation), which does not influence the luminosity. Whereas a mix with White always influences the luminosity (Helligkeit).
"Färbung" wouldn't fit in this case because it is also common use for a change of hue.

German, RC1:  Menu Ebene (Layer) > "In Bilderrahmen umwandeln" ("Convert to Picture Frame")

"Bilderrahmen" is used for physical frames such as paintings (wood, profiled, golden, etc.). Whereas this menu command refers to the term "Bildrahmen" which is commonly used in digital media. Both can be used singular and plural, whereas without -rahmen (Frame) the term "Bilder" is the plural of "Bild" (Picture > Picture Frame)
