catlover Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Hello, I have decided to move to the latest Beta R.C.1 completely. I have over time, gathered quite a number of personally created pallettes, as well as those downloaded from Resources. Is there a way to import the entire lot in one fell swoop into R.C.1 ? If so, please can anyone tell me the file name & path ? BTW : The same goes for "Styles" ... Thanks a million, it would save me a lot of work C.L. Quote
Dan C Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Hi catlover There's no official way in the app to do all this at once, but I believe copying the correct .PROPCOL file from App data should do the trick! Run '%appdata%/Affinity/Photo/1.0' then open the user folder and copy 'fills.propcol'. Return to '%appdata%/Affinity/Photo/' and select 1.0(Beta), then replace the fills.propcol file in the user folder. I've created a quick video of this below showing this for you or other users who may need this. Propcol beta.mp4 Quote
Dan C Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Had I read your post correctly I would have noted you're using Mac... Apologies! The same goes for the .propcol files on your Mac, you can find these here - /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/Data/Library/Application Support/user/ Quote
catlover Posted May 28, 2019 Author Posted May 28, 2019 Hello, Dan Tried your method, sorry to say it didn't work. Still the same default palette showed up. Thank you for your trouble, though ! C.L. Quote

At least arguably, considering that this topic is primarily about the Mac Affinity Designer customer beta & that the proposed procedure is OS-specific, it perhaps would have been better, or at least less confusing, to post it in the Designer Beta on Mac forum, rather than here. But I suppose what's done is done. That said, I think that copying the various *.propcol files from the 1.6.x user folder to the corresponding 1.7 customer beta folder is probably not a good idea, but if you want to try it, you will need to copy the files to the correct beta folder. For Macs it is at a slightly different path than for the 1.6.x files you would be copying from. That path is not to anything in the ~/Library/Containers/ path but to this path: /Users/<USERNAME >/Library/Application Support/Affinity Designer Beta/user/ If you decide to try this, I strongly suggest that you make a backup of these beta version files first, just in case something doesn't work as you hoped it would. catlover Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 Thanks, RC_R : That did the trick. Both versions work perfectly, the entire collection of palettes is now showing in the RC1 version of Designer. Funny thing about the paths, though : The path as shown in Dan C's post also has a number of .propcol files in it, for both Beta versions :Photo & Designer. But the software obviously picks up the file in your example. Must be something in the code. Thanks again, all the best, C.L. Quote

I'm not sure what you mean about that path having files in it for the beta versions. The beta & retail .propcol files are independent of each other, as are those for the two apps, so changes or updates to files in any of the up to four different file paths (two each for the beta & retail apps) do not affect any of the .propcol files in the other three file paths. The only way to do that I know of is by manually copying or moving files between the equivalent file path locations, for example by dragging a file from a Finder window open to the appropriate folder for one of them to a Finder window open to the appropriate folder for the other one. I assume that is what you did, which would explain why it worked. IOW, it is not something in the code. catlover Posted May 30, 2019 Author Posted May 30, 2019 Sorry for the delay in answering your post. Yes, I did first rename the appropriate file to a new file extension ( e.g. [ ] _org ) and then copied the right file into the folder. And yes, I dit get the forum sections mixed up, hence posted my question in the wrong one, sometimes that sort of mishap occurs, probably an age-related thing Anyway, it worked like a charm - I suppose the same procedure goes for the "styles" propcol as well. Will try it out when and where. Quote

catlover Posted May 31, 2019 Author Posted May 31, 2019 No, It doesn't. There are separate propcol files for all sorts of settings, the filename tells it all. (scnsht AffDes.v.1.6.1) All the best, C.L. Dan C 1 Quote
