Plugins cause crash in 1.7.0.127

Recommended Posts

Anthropics and Topaz Studio cause photo to immediately crash upon launch. Filter Forge opens, but crashes after applying. All three worked without problems on all previous beta versions.

Same for Alien Skin's Eye Candy. Can't open at all now. Crashes APh every time.

Hi applewoodj, Claude_ch, nwhit,
The crash issues should now be fixed in Affinity Photo Customer Beta 1.7.0.128
Alien Skin's plugins never worked correctly in Affinity Photo on Mac even before the changes made in the build (1.7.0.127) so these issues are still present but the plugins should not crash Affinity on launch.

Just tried Eye Candy with 128 and it didn't crash, so that might be fixed, but still no usable preview.

My NIK plugins crashed the app under .127, but seems OK now under .128, but took ages to load up at first try. Whole computer struggled. (iMac mid 2010, OS 10.13.6, 3.06 GHz Core i3, RAM 4 GB - will be installing more soon.) Felt like heavy memory pressure.

NIK plugins Dfine 2 (noise removal) & Sharpener Pro 3 now work OK as mentioned, but I experimented with Silver FX b/w converter and got the 'updating fonts' message which locks you out, needing a force quit to recover. (I've not tried the various NIK colour plugins because I've found they are unusable due to the total inaccuracy of their preview window in AF Photo.)

Yes, 128 didn't seem to crash, or at least it didn't the handful of times I tried it.

Interesting! Based on that, I tried it again, but closed about a dozen tabs, some of which were large docs. EC now opens, shows a preview image, albeit not accurate (mostly monochrome), and does produce the effect. Did it twice, so seems to be working when I don't have a lot of tabs going.

Mac High Sierra.

I would also mention that if I open EC from AP choose an effect then press ok, it actually does apply the filter.

But without a preview it is impractical. 1.7.0.134

Same here on 134. Essentially a monochrome and inaccurate preview. Keep hoping Affinity can get it working!
