requiredusage Posted May 21, 2019 Share Posted May 21, 2019 I am currently running the trials of affinity photo/designer/publisher and am trying to create text where the text itself is "see through" and shows the background image while the text box has a background color highlighting the text. (Something like the attached image which was not created via the Affinity programs.) In Designer, I was able to do what I wanted but could not change the opacity of the background textbox so I moved to Publisher. There I was able to change the opacity of background how I wanted it but could not figure out a way to change the opacity of the text itself to be gone so I could have "see through" text (I did this in Designer by using stroke and setting text opacity to none). In Publisher, the text was not "see through" but had the background color of the text fill I chose. Is it possible to do what I want using the Affinity programs? I've created a quick video showing this below, after loading my background I created a white semi-transparent rectangle then typed my text above this. I then converted my text to curves and Ungrouped the auto-created group in the Layers studio. I selected the recently created rectangle, along with the aforementioned curves and used Layer>Geometry>Combine. This created one curves object that is semi-transparent, with the wording 'cut out' to be transparent. I hope this helps! I am a hobbyist coming from GIMP who can only rely on Google to help me get to where I want and I don't always have the correct language to help me find what I want to do in searches. I think picking up all the Affinity set will be a good fit for me. As a side note, if I buy now (ver. 1.6) will I need to purchase the ver. 1.7 update later? Should I wait for 1.7 before buying?
