I can go back a command with ctrl-Z (thank you). I can go forward (re-do) a command with shift-ctrl-Z (thank you very much). These are of course bog-standard windows commands, but I would like to see undo (ctrl-Z) and redo ( shift-ctrl-Z) arrows visible.

Hi @ehume and welcome to the forum.

Undo / Redo buttons are a frequently requested addition to the Affinity range, with many requests going back years. I am not sure why Serif have decided against adding them, or at least giving the option to add them to the toolbar.

You will find the forum is very informative and I strongly recommend getting acquainted with the search function (top right on desktop web-browser) as it is actually pretty good at finding things - and most thing have been discussed at some point!

In no particular order…

You might also consider using the History Panel like a super undo/redo button!

In the latest 1.7 betas this panel not only allows quick traversal of the history, but can also handle branching histories, and even give a preview of how things looked at each step. Pretty powerful.
