Windows x64 here. Custom Theme. Right away I'm told to switch to Windows Aero Theme. Not a good start when I have to change the way my desktop and the rest of my system looks, just to run an application. Any way around this?

Hi.  Welcome to the Affinity forums.

think the short answer to your question is No, sorry.  I thought the use of the Aero interface was almost obligatory in Win 10?

But similar questions have been raised with respect to Windows 7.  This forum search will show you at least some of the posts on the topic.  Perhaps one of the solutions offered there might help you?

Long-time user of Serif products, chiefly PagePlus and PhotoPlus, but also WebPlus, CraftArtistProfessional and DrawPlus.  Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2.

Well, I guess Affinity will not work for me. Why create a program that depends on a specific Windows Theme (Aero)? It's the first time I've come across such a thing. I did briefly turn on Aero just to check Photo & Designer, and they look like great programs. But, like another poster noted, I'm not going to be switching back and forth between themes just to use one program out of many others installed on my computer. I hope you can change this requirement in a future version.

You don’t actually need Aero as such. When you disable Aero, you’re disabling DWM (Desktop Window Manager) Composition, which can lead to performance and rendering issues.

DWM Composition is always enabled on Windows 8.1 or 10, but on Windows 7 you can disable it with the --no-dwm-warning command line switch.
