Fonts in Aff Designer - selecting non-standard letter for capital P

Recommended Posts

OK: new font works perfect in Word document. But, try to type letter P in new AFf Designer text field, and I get the P with a leading swash (when used as first letter)

See: https://cl.ly/4d82f0

Not sure what's going on. Any tips? I tried digging around in Glyphs but even when i manually select a regular capital P, it appears like this. ANd, honestly, i shouldnt have to work around to get a simple capital letter. This is the first font that I've had this happen.

Thanks.

Go to Text > Show Typography (Ctrl + Shift + T) and a Panel will appear. Maybe it's that some of the features in the Font there are active.

Best regards!

Thanks for the suggestion - I've never looked at that level of detail on a font! I know that I did not go in and select this, BUT the issue was that the "initial forms" are set to the stylized letter P (with left swash). Just adding this answer, in case somebody else has this issue with the CLAYMALE or any other font!!

Initial forms is on by default. That is the OpenType specification to handle languages where it is necessary. The type designer should not have used that feature but instead used the Swash feature, which is off by default.
