The resource manager in the new update shows me that almost all my images and scans are missing but they are in fact in the document. What am I to make of that? I don't want to update any of them for fear they WILL go missing....

I'm no help with them appearing missing, but f it were me I would create a copy of the document and try to update on the copy and see what happens. If anything bad happened the original would still be intact.

I had similar issue and it was caused by my moving the image files to a different directory.

Check that the images are still in the directory pointed to

If you choose "embed" at the document setup, your images will always be part of the document.

No matter where you move your project, the images will always be there.
