firstdefence
@sumneuron If the mask has an A or a T on it you can just select the Artistic Text Tool and edit the text. Same with the Text Frame Tool. sumneuron
@firstdefence I can select the text mask, but I can not edit the text. I just end up making new "Art text" or new "Textbox" instead
firstdefence
Do you have the text frame tool selected. sumneuron
@firstdefenceI have tried both. Hot key T for Art text (this lets me select the mask but nothing else) or hot key T again (toggle to text frame)

sumneuron
@firstdefence Thank you very much. Ah I had to click the mask. I was hoping I could just get there by hot keys (e.g. `T` to Art Text, click on my text-masked texture, and then like any other text box click (to set cursor) and edit the text that way. Not move all the way over to layers panel and click the mask!
firstdefence
You can select the mask and then press T, it will give the same result. Most of the time to select child layers you must click the square icon of that layer. sumneuron
@firstdefence yes, but I can't click to get there. Have to start in layers panel firstdefence
JimmyJack
@sumneuron If you work the other way around you can do what you're looking for. Instead of using the text to mask the image, place the image as a child of the text. This affords you two things both without having to touch the layers panel: 1) you have direct access to the text with one on-canvas click. 2) with a double click(s) you can drill down to the child(ren). sumneuron
@JimmyJack sometimes if I make the image a child of the text, then I do not get the mask effect
Staff MEB Posted May 22, 2019 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2019 Hi sumneuron, While dragging the image layer over the text layer to turn it into a child of the text in the Layers panel make sure you drop it over the text layer name/label area on the right (not over the thumbnail). If you drop it over the text layer's thumbnail you are using the image as a mask and not clipping it inside the text which is what you want. sumneuron
@MEB I know that much still doesn't always work for me. While I have you here Mr pro can you explain what the button "Mask Layer" does since every reference video / article / blog post seems to rely on the child drop method
