linds.saurus
I am using a trace tool online and when I try to open it a window appears and the preview is blank. Then a pop window says: could not open PDF file. File could not be parsed.
Hokusai
Are you talking about opening the file in Affinity Designer or you can't open the file in the online trace application? It sounds like you are talking about the online trace tool but I'm not sure. Trace tools normally want raster file formats such as tiff, jpeg, png, etc. I don't know but I would think that they wouldn't open an .ai file (there would be no need as .ai supports vectors). Staff MattP Posted May 1, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 1, 2015 It sounds like you're trying to open the .ai file into Affinity Designer and the PDF stream that we expect to be in the file isn't there. This is usually caused by the .ai file either being for an old version of Illustrator (prior to version 8 or 9?) or just simply not including the 'compatibility' PDF stream. In either of those cases, we won't be able to open the file. Would you be able to say which online tool generated the file? We might be able to see if there is any way around it? Thanks, Matt [EDIT] Ah, I just spotted on your other thread that you might be using http://online.rapidresizer.com/tracer.php? If that's the case, just export as SVG, PDF or EPS and all should be well :) linds.saurus
Dave Harris
The warning refers to PDF rather than AI because internally we treat AI files as PDF. I'll change it to make it less confusing.
linds.saurus
Thank you for the help. I didnt know that you can edit the lines or anchors in SVG or EPS I thought it was only in .ai files you can do that, that was my intent to fix it when I open it in Affinity. I will try again with and give an update.
