Can I import assets (.afasset)?

I'm new to Affinity Designer.  I purchased a copy for my Windows Desktop and for my iPad.  I have been able to import .afasset files to the desktop version, but I can't seem to import .afasset files into the iOS version.

 

The tutorial/help section at this site: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/store/resources-install-guide/  has a header "Installing Affinity Assets on iPad" and it had directions for navigating to an .afassets file.  However, the screenshot only has "import category" and not "import asset".  When I try the "import category" option and browse to my .afassets file, I am not allowed to select the file.

 

Perhaps the guide has a typo, in which case I would like to know if there is any other way to import assets.  My current requirement is to mock up GUIs on the go, and it's a bummer being stuck with the iOS default assets.

No not .afasset but you can import .afassets file format. Note the ‘s’ on the end which denotes a collection of assets rather than a singular asset file.

Oh my word, please skip the semantics!  And you took the time to draw a diagram?  What moderator approved this?

And no, the process shown on your diagram and in the linked help file do not work.  Would you like me to show you a video of nothing happening while I tap on the screen?  The .afassets file is not selectable.

 

edit: I'm sorry if I'm being an ugly American, but in the US when we get an answer like this, it is most likely not sincere.

screw you buddy, my initial message indicated that I had already read the tutorial and this bloke replied with a tier zed bitmap that did worse than tell me what I said I already knew!

I'm about to post a youtube video of your program not working.  I'm waiting for youtube to process it.  

 

Even if I were an idiot and didn't know what I was doing, the Serif instructions are internally inconsistent and wrong.

 

However we are wasting all of this time because you friend responded like he did.

Please watch the video. 

Can I ask where are your ..afassets file located, IOS can be a bit temperamental about where it loads from. In my example I have created a resources folder in the root of iCloud Drive. Other locations may not work as well.

There is no need to use Youtube, you can do a screen recording in IOS and load directly to your post using the Click to choose files option below.

Okay, so knowing that information, and knowing that I wrote that I followed the instructions, and also knowing that I wrote: "I have been able to import .afasset files to the desktop version, but I can't seem to import .afasset files into the iOS version."

 

You responded by saying that it is impossible to import an .afasset file.  I just said that I was able to successfully import the file on the desktop, so do you think I am lying about being able to do it on the desktop, or maybe there is a typo?

 

Then I post a link to the instructions, the instructions that use words that don't match the app or the screenshots, and you just repeat those back to me. 

 

So instead of going for the "Designer can be picky with where the file is loading from" angle, you draw a sketch of the instruction I just pointed to!

 

And don't get me started on the fact that the app uses "import category" while the desktop program and the instructions call it "import assets".  That alone spreads the seed of doubt and distrust that the action is possible at all.

Well I wanted to be very clear about the video and what was happening.  Hopefully the subtitles will suffice.

I first open the files app to confirm the presence of the file and the file extension.

Then I open Designer and follow the instructions, but the file is greyed out.

Okay, so yes, the problem seems to be with loading the file from google drive. 

I copied to file to my iCloud drive and it worked.  The instructions specifically mention Dropbox but I couldn't use that due to account limitations.  I would have thought that apple's system would have provided a uniform interface so that apps would not have to worry about the origin of files, but here we are.

I suppose I should email the support address with a bug report.

I wish we could have got to this sooner.

Thanks BR29, some of the IOS issues are not of Serif’s making ( by the way i’m just a user like you, not affiliated with Serif or Affinity in any way ). 

Google drive issue has been reported before, iCloud Drive, Dropbox (eventually)j and On my iPad folders also work, as for other cloud services expect problems like this.
