menu Text > Capitalisation :: "None" & get rid of ...

Recommended Posts

This is about the lack of some sub-menu item tick marks and their functionality of undo or unselect.
In menu "Text" > "Capitalisation" the tick mark for "None" remains active if any of the options in the lower section got selected. These options never show a tick mark.

That is irritating and also prevents to get rid of the selection "Sentence Case" at a later moment.
(
"Title Case" and "Sentence Case" can't be controlled in the Character panel.)

I assume a bug compared to other menu items in this list, for instance "Spacing" or "Character Trait":

• In "Spacing" at least the tick mark at "Default" disappears as soon one of the options below got selected. Also it is possible to undo such a lower selection at any time by choosing "Default" or "None" (or by setting in Character panel the value for "Tracking").

• In "Character Trait" any selection gets a tick mark and can be undone any time by selecting the selected again (or by choosing font weight or decoration in Character panel):

======================

Resume for menu "Capitalisation":
• "None" shouldn't remain marked if any cap method got selected.
• The tick marks in the lower section and the deselect function of at least "Sentence Case" should become implemented.

The menu options are separated by a divider because they work in two different ways. The first three options are dynamic: they are done at draw time by glyph substitution, possibly using OpenType features, without changing the underlying characters. This means they are part of character formatting and can be used in text styles. It also means they can be switched off, because the underlying characters are still there. The other options are one-shot. They don't just effect how the characters are drawn, they actually edit the text as if you had typed in the capitals yourself. This means they aren't formatting, and can't be part of text styles or switched off. That's why they behave differently and why the second group don't get ticks.
