INSERTING PAGE NUMBERS PROBLEM

I have tried to set my 11 page numbers on my document . As directed in the very good tutorial , I am  in my master page, I clicked on frame text tool to create a box and then went in to text , insert , fields and page number . All seems simple except the result is a hash symbol. I changed this to 1 but the numbers do not run consecutively through the document. I am up to date with my version of Publisher.

On the Master Page, # is correct. It will be replaced by the proper number on the document pages that are based on that Master.

Thanks Walt . I have replaced the hash with number 1 and 2 on the facing page - but all the other pages have 1 and 2 they still don't run as a sequence which is strange .

If you are using facing master pages, the hash (not a number) on the left master page is set first, by creating the text frame, then clicking TEXT>Insert>Fields>Page number.   You can then choose the justification if you want it, such as Align Left.   You then need to copy that text frame with the hash tag in it, paste it back (on top of the first frame), and then drag the pasted text frame over to the right master page.   You would then choose Align Right.   If you are using facing document pages, your first will be a single page (page 1).   So right click on that first document page and choose Apply Master.     At that point, all of your document pages should be correctly numbered in proper sequence.

Don't do that! Use Master pages as mentioned above for automatic page numbering -- on Master pages the hash tag is a placeholder for the page number.

Thank you both - this all works now . It wasn't clear from the Youtube tutorial I am using .
