Omly footnotes (endnotes not so much) are keeping me away of serious use of Publisher. I find it very stable and full of most needed features for everyday work.

Don´t think so negative.   :10_wink:
I´m sure it will be ready a long time before the Versions 2.0.

I think we are very near to v. 2.0. That is why v. 1.7 is not yet here. It should be presented at the end of the last year if we compare the cycle of the other versions.

Yes, from this hand you are right, but on the other hand we are with Version Numbers in 1.7.0.xxx. If the steps remain like this it will take a long time until version 2 is released.
That´s only my opinion. Maybe the whole thing will be accelerated. i don´t know...

Have a nice day.

Just read the Photo and Designer road maps and you will see that there are only a few features to add. Most of them are added but not removed because they are still beta's.

My big compliments go to the new Pinning feature. I was convinced that something like this would be introduced before APub's initial release. This looks promising!

In regard of this thread's topic. I do not think the software is ready for release. There needs to be done a lot of fine tuning and bug fixing. Good luck with that.

I don’t think so. Publisher is stil public beta. Next phase is customer beta. And, maybe, 6 months after that…

I don't think there can't be a customer beta until there are customers who have bought it.

I think it would go:

  1. Public beta
  2. Release for sale (1.7.0.something)
  3. Serif makes more improvements
  4. Customer beta (1.7.1.something)
  5. Update of released version (still 1.7.1.something)

I agree. All of the desktop Affinity apps have been released to retail after a public beta phase, and then any further betas have only been available to customers who purchased the retail version.

I am still looking for templates in Affinity Publisher similar to the ones that are in PagePlus X9.  I like being able to go to predefined templates to start a new publication and not having to create a new one when needed. I thought that was on the agenda but haven't seen it yet, unless I have overlooked it. Anyone know?

You have not missed anything, yet. The focus is on finishing the product and translations and help files. It does not make sense to publish templates as long the whole thing is not ready. You might want to look at the Recources forum if you find something there (I'm not often there so I do not know for sure).

We won't know what's on the official roadmap until after Publisher is released for sale.

Until templates arrive, if they are coming, you can create your own documents with appropriate page sizes, margins, text styles, and other formatting but without text and images, and save them for later use. When you have a project that's similar to one of them, just Open it from the folder you saved your personal templates in, then Save As under a new name and location, and do your work.

I would also be tempted to make these "template" type files as read only to avoid overwriting them accidentally

I put "template" in quotes as we recognise that real template functionality is a lot more sophisticated, including (optionally?) picking up default text and object styles, dafault language, palettes, and resetting fields like the author, created date and saved times, etc.

Maybe with different extension (like other programs name their templates) so when you open them, they are named as <Untitled>.

Why has no one mentioned the missing persona as a must prior to exiting beta?

We are testing those personas internally/privately, so they are getting some coverage already

Consider also the possibility of having their content adapt automatically to differing page sizes, so that the same template could be used to create either a US Letter or an A4 document, for example.
