david.cittadini
I have an AD file that is primarily created from Vector components and I need to send the file to an external graphics printing company, pretty urgently actually. This graphics company uses Windows and primarily wants an Acrobat PDF, or possibly an Illustrator file. The problem is, whenever I Export from AD to PDF it converts some of the Vector components to bitmaps, which then causes a lot of problems. I have even tried exporting to SVG and then converting that to PDF using Gapplin. However, that too results in vectors being converted to bitmaps. So, how do I export an AD vector-based document into another format where I can guarantee that the exported file preserves all the original vector information? I have attached a cut down version of the full document that shows the two components that get converted to bitmaps on export (I have also provided the PDF export). Thanks :) Affinity-Export.afdesign Affinity-Export.pdf
Staff MEB Posted April 27, 2015 Staff Share Posted April 27, 2015 Hi david.cittadini, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Without seeing the file is difficult to predict what's going wrong. If you are using FX effects then that's the cause of the rasterisation, since all of them are rasterised at export. Some brushes (bitmap based) are also rasterised on export. Those are probably the most common situations but there may be others related to (currently) unsupported features in our PDF export. david.cittadini
Hi, I was just doing that as you posted :)
Dave Harris
Thanks for cutting the file down to the minimum. The Kiwi fruit uses Elliptical fills, which our PDF export can't currently cope with. It can cope with Radial fills, and changing to those doesn't seem to affect the appearance, so that could be a workaround. The other group has a layer opacity of 70%. In this case the group only contains one item, and if you take the opacity off the group and add it to the item then that works. More generally, if the group contains multiple items they all get drawn together and the layer opacity applies to the result, and that's currently done by rasterising. I'm sorry you're experiencing these issues. Our PDF export will get better over time. Meanwhile I hope the above comments help.
david.cittadini
Thank you for that, it is most appreciated :) I will follow the suggested workaround and will let you know how it goes. Of course, I look forward to when the exporter can make this process easier.... Thanks again :)
david.cittadini
That seemed to work well, thanks :)
vonBusing
The elliptical fill export issue explain quite some troubles I have had. Is there any solution ahead for this?
Dave Harris
I hope so, yes.
