Removing a white edge to cut and paste

Hi all

I have a picture taken in a town where the sky has blown. I have selected this blown sky, cut it out and pasted a blue sky behind the layer so it shows through the cut out section.  My problem is there is a white line around the edge of the cut out layer which I am unable to remove. I have tried using the refine selection tools to no avail. Can any one help please.

If possible redo the selection, if not use a more appropriate sky

Thanks for the helpful reply. But it leads on to other questions which are.

Why is one sky more appropriate that another?

And I have done the selection several time now all with the same outcome so any idea as to what I am doing wrong?

The sky has to fit the scene, the sky you used is too blue, it looks obviously fake, maybe toning the colour down a bit using a HSL filter would help, I set the HSL filter to these settings and it looked much better.

Making a good selection can take a bit of patience, and if the sky looks blown out, its not always that easy to get a good selection.

1. Turn the sky layer off by unchecking the box to the right
2. Go to the image layer
3. Select the Flood Fill tool  make sure the fill colour is set to white
4. Now fill the transparent area
5. Select the Flood Select tool  and click on the white area you have just filled
6. Go to Select > Shrink and Grow set to 2-3px
7. Go to Select > Feather and set to 1-2px
   1. You could at this point invert the selection and blur the edges a bit with the blur tool  t hen invert a gain and continue with the process.
8. Save the selection Select > Save Selection > As Spare Channel (You can load the selection back in if needed, saves having to do steps 1-7 again.)
9. Press Delete, and deselect the selection.
10. Turn the sky layer back on, I adjusted your sky to have more clouds by scaling it up a bit.

 

I added a 1px gaussian blur to give a slight haze to the sky.
