William Overington Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I am currently using a trial version of Affinity Designer and the beta version of Affinity Publisher. Is the Pen Tool exactly identical in both applications please? Also, is the Pencil tool only in Affinity Designer? If so, would it be possible to add the Pencil Tool into Affinity Publisher please? Staff stokerg Posted April 16, 2019 Staff Posted April 16, 2019 Hi William, The Pen Tool in the Affinity range is the same tool (or will be once everything is on 1.7). The one currently in Publisher is better than the trial one, but thats due to certain fixes and tweaks that have been made during the beta cycle of the apps. The Pencil is only currently in Designer. If you wanted to see it introduced into Publisher, you'd have to put in a Feature Request in the Publisher section of the forums and it may be added but only if the Dev team see it a suitable tool for Publisher. walt.farrell Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Note that if one owns both Publisher and Designer, then it is likely that the pencil tool would be available in Publisher via the Designer Persona once Serif unlocks the personas for Publisher. But we don't have details on that yet. And that would apply only to those who own both applications. stokerg and William Overington 1 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Well, it would be good, but then again Serif is in the business of selling (licences for) software, and I suppose that I would really be asking for a way to get to use the Pencil tool without buying (a licence for) Affinity Publisher. So I am I suppose reticent about asking. The thing is, with the Plus range I have used PagePlus a lot and DrawPlus hardly at all. So I am hoping to buy (a licence for) Affinity Publisher when they become available for purchase. I have never seemed to get to grips with using DrawPlus to produce anything like the sort of images that some other people have produced. Bri-Toon Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I think some tools like the Pencil was left out as a way to draw an equal comparison between the apps. Publisher, just being in beta, can already do a lot of the tasks Designer can do. To make proper use of those personas, Designer would need to feature some tools specifically for illustration. That how I perceive it anyway. But hey, don't be afraid to ask. Like Stokerg said, you could always put it as a feature request. William Overington 1 Quote The website is still a work in progress. The "Comics" and "Shop" sections are not yet ready. Feel free to connect with me and let me know what you like or what can be improved.
