Affinity Photo - Is there any way to flip an entire photo horizontally left to right or right to left? I have found info on flipping images but nothing on an entire photo. How about doing the flip in Designer? Is it maybe possible in Designer?

What do you see as the difference between an image and an entire photo?

I think he might be wanting to flip the entire contents of the document, not just a single image contained within.

  • If the former, Use Document > Flip Horizontal
  • If the latter just select the layer and use Arrange > Flip Horizontal

Thanks for the replies. I just now applied the "Document > Flip Horizontal" suggestion. It did what I wanted. I have had some difficulty with terminology transposing in Affinity. It has to do with many years of CAD work. To me things like - Mirror means Flip, and, Document doesn't mean Photo but rather something in WORD or Excel.  But that is just my personal space I have to deal with and transform. It certainly has nothing to do with the fantastic Photo and Designer applications. They are unreal. Just a little overwhelming at this point for me but I will conquer them for my purposes. Thanks for your time and input.

In reply to John Rostron - I understand your question and reason for directing it to me. Here's my reply. As I jump into Affinity with both feet I merely have to get a new train of thought in order. I don't really see a difference, in answer to your question. It's just that as I have been learning from different tutorials and getting started I have worked with "pulling/extracting an 'image'" from a "photo" etc. Hence - my twisting of terminology and how it carries on inclusive with "Document" vs "photo". Simply a small learning curve in a new (to me) application. Thanks for yours, reminous', and firstdefense's input though. I never approached looking under the "Document" menu for Flip solutions. I was instead watching tons of tutorials on "Mirror" and "Transform". My fault.

Don't feel alone. So many of these terms have so many different meanings, some much broader than others, that it can be really hard to know which are the most appropriate one(s) to use.

For example, in the most general sense, a "photo" is that which a camera creates or anything created from it. In the analog realm it could be a print, a negative, a slide, or the like, & usually consists of a single image. In the digital realm, a photo document could consist of many different images combined in different ways. The file output by a DSLR could have only one image, the preview or thumbnail, with the 'real' image stored as raw data that has to be "developed" into a usable image.

"Document" is the most general, all inclusive term, because it could refer to any of the above, & in the digital realm it could include non-photo objects like text, vectors, many kinds of metadata, various kinds of 'synthetic' raster images, & even refer to things that are not files like unsaved documents.
