Display special (hidden) characters

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to display hidden characters like carriage returns, new line/line break, tab strokes, various spaces, and so forth to aid control of text? This could also be helpful in Photo, though is less important. Can this be added if it's not already there? It's available in Publisher as one would expect, but...

I see there is a discussion in relation to tabs, but a wider implementation would be great.

Thanks, GM

I agree that would be useful. Perhaps Serif will enable it at some point, as they have in Publisher.

Was this feature ever implemented? I'm new to APub and can't find this feature. Thanks.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Not implemented yet in Designer or Photo.

But how about in Publisher? That's the program I'm trying to learn. (I'm new to Affinity software, just having switched from MS Publisher because I bought an iMac.) And if this feature exists in Affinity Publisher, where can I find it? So far, I haven't succeeded. Thanks!

Thanks. I found that feature in the Text menu; but when I click on it, nothing displays - no line or paragraph feeds or any other special characters that I can see. Oh, well.

Some screenshots showing the full application window and Layers panel might help, as well as a sample .afpub document.

Screen shots won't be necessary. I got it to work by creating a new, test document containing a text box, with "Show Special Characters" activated. When I started typing, the special characters (e.g., line feeds and spaces) magically displayed. I also used a relatively large type size (16 pt.). Otherwise, the special characters are very difficult to see, at least on my iMac's 4.5K display. Unlike with Microsoft Office apps, the special characters in APub display smaller than the type size and in a faint blue color, at least on my monitor. Anyhow, thanks for your help, Walt. Much appreciated.
