rahorn Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Grouping a picture and transparent text crashes the App. fde101 1
fde101 Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 It took me a few tries but I was finally able to reproduce this. It happens (in my case) for both artistic text and frame text when grouping with a picture that is not in a frame. If the picture is in a frame it does not crash. Affinity Publisher Beta_2019-04-06-060402_Mac-Pro.crash
Old Bruce Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 It is not happening here. Picture placed (jpeg at 100%, both linked and embedded), Text entered and made transparent Text and Picture grouped together. No crash. Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
rahorn Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 I think, it has to do with pictures (not in frame!). afp crashes not only when grouping but also, when trying to set the cursor in a text field but some picture is around.

Not seeing that either. What is the font you have for the text? Is this Windows or Mac? Are the pictures embedded or linked? How large (file size in bytes) are the pictures? What file type are the pictures (jpeg, png, afphoto, tiff)? Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. fde101 Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Does it for me with a linked JPEG, Arial Regular, Mac, image is 4.91 MB.
Old Bruce Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Tried jpeg just over 4 MB jpeg over 6 MB. Pics not in frames. Tried filler text, filler text 'as text', placed text from a file. No crashes. I turn off most of the Auto-Correct Preferences. That is all I can think of. I have the second and fourth auto-correct on. Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. fde101 Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 I used artistic text and just typed something like "Testing". I also tried it with frame text but that was similarly just something like "Testing" or "This is a test" or some such.
Old Bruce Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Frustrating in that two people have this crash and I can't duplicate it. Not that I like to break things but that is the purpose of beta testing. fde101 1 Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. Staff Jon P Posted April 15, 2019 Staff Posted April 15, 2019 @rahorn and @fde101 I'm also struggling to reproduce this at the moment. Is it possible for you to attach a document that is in a state where you can crash it by grouping? Could you also let me know what macOS you are on? Thanks! Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
fde101 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I was on 10.12.(whatever-the-last-one-was) when I got the crash fairly consistently. I have since then upgraded to 10.13.6 and it is no longer crashing.
Staff Jon P Posted April 16, 2019 Staff Posted April 16, 2019 I've tried on 10.12 to reproduce this but had no luck either. If either yourself or @rahorn get this again can you try recreate the document before grouping it and attach it? There's a few ways to apply transparency and I think I've covered most, but there might be something else unique to the documents you two are creating that could be cause of this.
