Inverting does not work right

Recommended Posts

This afternoon when I wanted to invert a selection it did not do it right. Instead of selecting the background, the selected part was changed to a contrast negate image , however I did not use the blend mode.

I have no idea how to correct this. Anyone?

I use Affinity Photo 1.6.7.

iMac OS 10.13.6

Try holding the shift key and that should invert the selection.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thank you both for your reply. However I think I did not state the problem correctly .

Every time I try to invert a selection, this happens. The selection never inverts, it just becomes a negative image

What @HVDB Photography posted works for me in both the retail (1.6.7) and the beta (1.7.0.112) versions here on Mac. How are you making the selection? Could we see a screen shot of your Layers Studio please.

Usually I use the brush tool.  and then use cmd-I for inverting, or I go to the layer menu and choose invert. Same happens when I try the shift button.

I never had any problem with inverting, until now. Could it be a software problem?invert1.thumb.jpeg.a705fc82b0d6e397ea8f12dc51242284.jpeg

Select menu. Select > Invert Pixel Selection.

You need to distinguish between two cases:

  1. Inverting the selection: That is, selecting the face (as you did) and then changing the selection so it is everything except the face. That is Select > Invert Pixel Selection, shortcut Cmd+Shift+I (Ctrl instead of Cmd on Windows).
  2. Inverting the content of the pixels contained within the selection: That is, selecting the face and then inverting its colors. That is Layer > Invert, shortcut Cmd+I (Ctrl instead of Cmd on Windows).
