Dawn001
I'm very much a novice so hope someone can advise me please as I've searched endless tutorials. I want to create a marble background in various colours. How can I do this or is there a tutorial somewhere?

John Rostron
You could try Perlin Noise (under Filters > Noise). This allows you to create cloud-like or marbled effects and is highly configurable. Here is an example: John Bri-Toon 1 Quote Windows 10, Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Designer 1.10.5 and Publisher 1.10.5 (mainly Photo), now ex-Adobe CC CPU: AMD A6-3670.
