When I dowmload and install the released version of AP 1.7, Can I retain 1.6 as I use Nik plugins a lot?

First you are aware AP 1.7 is Customer Beta? You can run it along with the Released version, 1.6. I'm not sure how Serif handles full released upgrade version installs. Most softwares will over-right the older version or require it be uninstalled. But that's not always the case. Corel for example does allow multiple full release versions to remain on your system, just can only run one at a time. With Affinity you can run the Beta and the full release simultaneously.

Affinity Photo 1.7.0.367, ; Win10 Home Version:1903, Build: 18362.207: Intel i7-4770, 3.40GHz, 16GB Ram, Nvidia GTX 645

The Nik Collection works well on my Beta version, just as it does on the 1.6 version. The only plugin  that I have that will not now work with the Beta is Filter Forge.

Thanks to those who replied.   John, you said that Nik plugins work fine.   I'm on a Mac , and the only one that works on it is Viveza.   I assume that you are on a Windows machine.

I admit it! Perhaps a Mac user could respond.

I use a Mac & the old Google NIK plugins work OK on 1.6 but not on 1.7.

We're trying to contact AP developers to fix the problem. Hopw they'll answer us soon and we'll be able to make Filter Forge work under AP again. Meanwhile we suggest to work with Filter Forge in a standalone mode and use copy and paste feature to drag images to and from AP.
