Losing effects (drop shadows, etc.) when opening .ai file in Publisher

Recommended Posts

When I open an illustrator file in affinity publisher beta on my mac, the effects added to objects (drop shadows, etc.) in illustrator are not showing in the publisher beta. Is this by design? Is there a way to get the effects to show up in publisher beta when opening an illustrator file?

Affinity only uses the PDF portion of the Ai file. Most effects applied in Ai will be lost.

You can apply a drop shadow - called outer shadow in affinity, from the layers panel with the small icon "fx" this opens the fx panel.2020141923_ScreenShot2019-03-12at08_30_57.png.252816088a5f48105326a00287163ab9.png

Note: in Affinity Designer beta you can now add multiple fills and strokes to get very similar effects to Adobe Illustrator.
