musicfed Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 hello guys. I may miss something, but how do I change the colour of a layer? to change the colour of something in a photo I add a pixel layer on top of a photo, use the brush to paint some colour then change the blend mode to "hue" or "colour" and it sort of works most time for items (like a car, with good contrast). but what if I then want to change the colour of what I painted without having to repaint? I cannot seem to select the pixel layer and simply change colour- rasterizing doesn't help. thanks
Alfred Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Make a selection and add a fill layer. Only the selected region will be filled, and you will be able to change the blend mode and/or the fill colour at any time. musicfed and DM1 2 Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)
musicfed Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 thanks but why can't i just change the previous colour without making a new selection?
DM1 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 If you use a pixel layer, fill it with colour fill and add a mask then paint white/black on mask to reveal/conceal colour appearing on layers below, it is simple to change colour by selecting the pixel fill layer and filling with another colour. The mask determines what colours ar changed in the background layer. Selection method suggested by Arthur also works in similar manner. In this case the selection acts as the 'mask' to determine which pixels get recoloured. You can change the colour again by reselecting the 'original' selection and changing the fill colour. Either way the app needs to know 'which' pixels to change colour of. musicfed 1 M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). musicfed Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 thank you so much - still getting confused. I added a fill layer and reduced the opacity and then was able to change the colour of my shades. looked incredibly realistic! Alfred 1
PaulEC Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Sorry - I was going to suggest another way to recolour, but the option probably isn't available on iPad! Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz : 32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 – Windows 11 Home - Affinity Publisher, Photo & Designer, v2

There are some options which aren’t available on iPad, but unless you tell us what you were going to suggest we won’t know whether it’s one of them!! DM1 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Using the Colour Replacement brush is another option if speed/simplicity is required. Tolerance setting determines sensitivity to colour selected. 1FA22E08-B6BF-46BD-A925-13A40574ECA1.MP4 Alfred 1 M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Sorry, 'cause I tend to check the "Activity" tab in the forum I sometimes miss that someone is asking about the iPad version (which I know nothing about!), rather than the desktop version(s). I was going to suggest changing the colour layer using "Recolour" or "HSL" (making sure the adjustment layer is masked to the colour layer, not to the whole image.
