walt.farrell
Choose Advanced view in the History panel. Open a color image. Draw on it with a paintbrush using white paint (thumbnail 1 below). Add a Black and White Adjustment layer (thumbnail 2 below). Note that the thumbnail is still in color. Add a pixel layer above the B&W Adjustment (thumbnail 3). Note that the thumbnail is now in B&W. Paint with black on the new pixel layer (thumbnail 4). Thumbnail 1 shows the result of painting with the brush. Why doesn't thumbnail 2 show the result of adding the adjustment layer? dancers 21x.afphoto PaulAffinity 1 -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.

Why doesn't thumbnail 2 show the result of adding the adjustment layer? It didn't show the thumbnail in black and white when you added the adjustment because you haven't moved the sliders before adding a pixel layer - if you had done so you would have seen an additional step labelled Set adjustment parameters and the thumbnail would should a black and white image immediately - so it only updated it after you added a pixel layer. It should however have been updated as soon as the adjustment dialog was closed/exit from screen since its default values do perform a change in the image. There's also similar issues with other adjustments filters. Issue logged. Thanks for your feedback. walt.farrell 1 A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference
