Affinity photo on MacOS Freezing up. Dont know if im missing something or if its a bug.

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I have been using affinity photo on my ipad for some time and recently made the switch on desktop as well but have been running into a problem daily at this point and its making the software frustrating to use, especially when im trying to get something done quickly.

This seems to happen specifically when opening a file (.ai files) and as far as I can tell the program isnt 'unresponsive'. I can ctrl+tab to move between open files but clicking on the ui, anywhere, does nothing whatsoever no matter what once affinity has entered this state. I can still dropdown the menu items and some will actually do something but most dont. 70% are greyed out like this: https://goo.gl/gU5mu7

so far the only way I have been able to get affinity to stop doing this is to quit and restart. I have looked on every workspace on every display, its not some hidden top menu (thats user accessible anyway). If anyone knows whats going on or how I can avoid this happening I would be really thankful. I couldnt find anything googling and I just want my desktop software to work as well/smoothly as it does on my ipad.

edit: I should add that the 'expand, minimize, cloze' buttons at the top left are non-functional and the app will not close unless I force quit it from activity monitor.

edit 2: It seems to be specific to dragging ai files into affinity rather than opening them with a doubleclick. just completely lobotomizes the program.

clarifying how broken this piece of software is for me.
