Overprint preview, etc.

Recommended Posts

Hello team, I miss in Publisher the possibility of an overprint preview, as well as the possibility to set individual colors or objects to "overprint" or "cut out" (hope this is the right term, maybe "omit" is better?). I did not find a satisfying answer in the forum. Are these features available and I just can't find them?

Hello @Puck,

no answer does not mean anything personal towards you. Sometimes questions just slip through or someone doesn't have an good answer for you.

Overprint preview is not available, yet, nor individual colours. You might look into 'Adjustment layers > Soft Proof'. This is not the same but offers some possibilities.

Here's an interesting article on this (in German): https://carsten-nichte.de/blog/proofing-mit-affinity-photo/

Hallo Dominik, vielen Dank :D Ich bin mir dessen durchaus bewusst ("no answer does not mean anything personal towards you.

Cheers,

with no doubt print preview is important in a professional workflow. I would think this could be in the future part of a seperate 'Persona' in APub. I'm only guessing, here. From how I see it, Serif first tries to get the basic functionality right. And will then add further functionality piece by piece.

===

Hello Dominik, I'm 100% with you. I do not criticize Serif. The probability of a later implementation is very high, even with an own persona. And until then there are different workarounds, as you have already described.

Cheers, Puck

===

"Missing" doesn't mean "claiming". But you say it yourself, it would be desirable. Can one expect it? Yes, of course. Should one expect it in the first (full) version? Why not? But if this function is implemented later, it's also good. No stress. :) The purchase price of the program has nothing to do with this.

====

Absolutely so – even when you don't actually need it all the time print preview is a super helpful feature with problematic files/documents when you want to single out potentially problematic spots therein (like e.g. too much ink coverage). InDesign has been doing this right for years by now, as well as letting you set overprinting on an object level (and not just globally for certain colours).

Just like you I do hope that the guys at Serif will look closely at what has become a common standard in professional design and pre-press usage (due to Adobe – in this respect – good example). Professional users will most likely expect thes features in an application that has seemingly taken up the challenge to make its stand against the champion still ruling the market.

And yes: this might take a while (unfortunately)...
