Move layer with keyboard or menu, or add at bottom?

Recommended Posts

When I do something like "New Fill Layer", I want it at the bottom of the layers list. Is there a way to way to automatically add a new fill layer to the bottom of the layers, or else a keyboard shortcut to move the current layer down, preferably to the bottom?

Thanks.

Not that I know ...

You could use
Arrange > Move to Back

You can create a shortcut for insertion behind via
Edit > Preferences
Select Keyboard Shortcuts
in the second drop down list choose Arrange
then search for Insertion Behind

Butt you'll still need to select the bottom layer first

In Windows you can use "Ctrl + [" to move the layer down and "Ctrl + ]" to move it up. "Shift + Ctrl + ["  jumps to the bottom and "Shift + Ctrl + ]" to the top. Sorry, I don't know if you can do the same on a Mac.

I discovered that there actually is a shortcut to move the layer (see previous reply). But I really appreciate you took the time to give me such a detailed reply. Thanks!

FWIW, I customized the main toolbar to always show the 4 button "Arrange" group & placed that group to the immediate right of the Personas & Enhancement button groups. That makes it very quick & easy to add a new Fill layer & move it to the back without having to move the pointer very far.
