tomlxndr
As someone transitioning from InDesign, I often place .indd or .pdf files into another Indesign file, usually to impose a booklet or put multiple pages on one sheet of paper. I was pleased to see that I can do with with Affinity publisher. but... The files are embedded into the Affinity publisher document, not externally linked. This means that any changes i make in the original file don't get reflected in the second, imposed document and can't be updated to reflect said changes. Is there any method to support this? It would enable the creation of multiple formats (imposed printing pages, pdf ebooks, etc) while ensuring the editorial content remains the same across different versions. Jeremy Bohn
Did you try looking in the Resource Manager? It's in the Document menu.
walt.farrell
You have a choice when you create a new Publisher Document to "Prefer Linked" or "Prefer Embedded" files. You can also change that setting for an existing Document via File > Document Setup.... As Jeremy mentioned, for an existing document with Embedded files you can also use the Resource Manager to change embeddd files to linked. In the Publisher Preferences, under General, you also have the option of automatically updating the Linked copy of a file in Publisher when it is modified elsewhere. But note that even Linked files are, today, embedded in Publisher. There is no space saving in the .afpub file by Linking a file rather than Embedding it. That may change later in the beta. tomlxndr
Thanks for the responses - it seems that Affinity is one step ahead of me. I think I had 'prefer linked' in my preferences. It seems that linking .afpub files isn't fully implemented yet, but I'm reassured that it's in the pipeline. Looking in the resource manager, it lists the linked file as "Untitled.tiff" and shows a DPI just under 300. Does this mean these files are rasterised, or is this just a preview? Linking files isn't so much a space-saving measure as it is a means of maintaining the same content in different form factors, btw.

I'm just inquiring as to whether this happens when scalable files are placed. Will do a bit more research and see what happens.
