Through using a combination of Open Office and AD I have created a 28 page document but with one AD file name. Is there a way to turn this document into one multi-page printable document like a pdf?

That was quick!

I'm not sure if this will work for me. He appeared to create two separate pdfs and then merge them in to one pdf.

1 My problem is that I have a doc with one AD file name and 38 layers - one layer per page.

2 There is no document size shown but each layer would be A4

I suppose what I am asking is can AD create a multi-page document containing all the layers as separate pages?

Could the answer be Affinity Publisher? But that is not ready yet is it?

Hi jackamus,
To export a PDF with multiple pages you have to use artboards in Designer with the page dimensions you want. The artboard located on the bottom of the layers stack in the Layers panel corresponds to the first page of the PDF. The artboard on top of the layer's stack corresponds to the last page of the document. I don't know how you have structured you document in the layers panel but if you have used a rectangle (shape) as a base for each page you can convert it into an artboard going to menu Layer ▸ Convert Object to Artboard.

Do I need to do this for each layer?

Judging from the screenshot you have linked and the one you have attached seems you are already using an artboard for each page. If you go to menu File ▸ Export, select PDF and set the Area dropdown to Whole document each artboard should export as a page on the PDF. Isn't it working for you?

In screenshot I removed the content and just left blank pages as it was confidential.

I managed to answer my own question!

I converted each layer to an Artboard one at a time. It was not possible to do them all selected at the same time. The job is now done and now I will see if I can save it as a multi-page pdf.

I have now exported the file as a pdf but I'm not sure if anything is happening! There's no progress bar.

Thanks MEB but I'm afraid it is too personal to even do that.

It doesn't appear to have saved the artboard conversion as a pdf in AD. Should I try using AD Beta?

Further news!

Only the last page was saved as an exported pdf. Does that help?

Delete all the content and leave just the basic layer structure - the artboards - (no text or images). That's enough for me to check if it should export correctly as a multi-page PDF.

The Beta may or may not help depending on the issue. If you have it installed give it a try. Don't forget to do it with a COPY of the document, because if you save it in the Beta you will not be able to open the document again in the retail version.

Thanks for the file. What you have currently is a rectangle for each page. To quickly convert them to artboards, go to Affinity Designer Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts, set the first dropdown to Draw and the second to Layer then go to the Convert Object to Artboard entry in the list below and set a shortcut (a single key) for this command. Now go back to the layers panel select the first layer (rectangle) on top and press the shortcut you have chosen to convert it to an artboard. Click the layer below and do the same until you convert them al (unfortunately you can't do this for a multiple selection). If you then export the file as a PDF (don't forget to set the Area dropdown to Whole document) you should get a multipage PDF.

Hi meb,

I didn't get an email about this reply!

Presumably I cannot use just any key as some of them are already used as shortcuts - is this correct?

What keys can I use? Can I use a modifier key as well? I tried crtl and C but it doesn't appear to work.

I also tried 'Q' but still nothing.

Correction!

When I checked the layers they were already Artboards so I am now saving as a complete doc pdf. Hopefully this will be OK.

Hi Guys,

The pdf conversion from multilayer artboards was successful.

Until Ad Publisher becomes available then I will use AD to create a multipage doc for converting into a pdf.

My next problem is how do I add extra pages? Can I duplicate any layer, rename it and remove the content to make way for new content?
