JuergenW Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Hello! i've using Affinity Designer a long time on Mac - after defective of iMac 5k display i had to switch to Windows. Looks fine so far, there is only one issue with effects like "Gradient Overlay", the gradient created looks like a stairway ( find attached file ). I want to mention that this is done with the affinity trial version, i really want to buy it for windows but it should work the same as on MacOS. Gradient from black to white works, from black to dark gray doesn't! Any ideas whats wrong? Thank you Quote
Staff Gabe Posted February 28, 2019 Staff Posted February 28, 2019 Hi @JuergenW, Welcome to the forums. What you see is banding. Is your document 8 Bit? If so, you only have 256 shades of gray, and this is expected. You can enable "dither gradients" in Preferences > Performance to make it look smother. Also, make sure your view quality is set to9 Bilinear. Thanks, Gabe. Quote
JuergenW Posted February 28, 2019 Author Posted February 28, 2019 Hi @GabrielM, thank you for your quick respond! Checked all settings, even if the document is set to 16Bit - it looks the same! Just bought the full version for windows to continue my work but can't figure out what i'm doing wrong? gradient_test.afdesign Quote
Staff Gabe Posted February 28, 2019 Staff Posted February 28, 2019 It looks like the FX gradient does not use dither gradients. I've tried the same setup but with a normal, non-FX gradient and it's fine Quote
